9.8.1. Removal and installation of the brake drum

Moving of a front brake shoe on a back brake by means of a core at considerable wear of a drum with education of a fillet at it

Moving of a back brake shoe on a back brake by means of a tubular mandrel at considerable wear of a drum with education of a fillet at it

3 – a tubular mandrel with an internal diameter of 12 mm

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. The brake drum needs to be cleared of dirt and to be convinced of its free rotation.
2. The handle of the mechanism of the manual drive of the parking brake system has to be at the same time in the lowered family way.
3. To turn out two clamps 2 (see rice. Brake mechanisms of back wheels), fixing a drum to a nave of a back wheel, and, using as strippers two bolts with a carving of M8 1,5-2 cm long, to screw them in openings And yes to remove the brake drum.

Prevention

At strong corrosion of a flange of a drum and a nave it is connection it is necessary to moisten with kerosene or brake fluid and to sustain some time. In order to avoid damage of a drum and deformation of a board of a brake it is strictly forbidden to beat with the hammer a rim of a drum or to enter the screw-driver between a board and a rim of a drum, using it as the lever.


4. At considerable wear of a drum on its working surface the ring ledge interfering removal of a drum is formed. In this case removal of a drum needs to be made in the following order.
5. Through a big opening in a drum flange to insert a core with a diameter of 8 mm into an opening of "sock" of a forward block.
6. Any neck (for example, an assembly shovel), leaning on bolts of fastening of a wheel, to turn the brake drum towards the wheel cylinder (see rice. 7. To shift a back brake shoe towards the working cylinder, having put on the tubular end of a mandrel 3 (see rice. 13. For the purpose of preservation of necessary rigidity of drums it is impossible to chisel them more than on 0,8 mm on the party. After boring the surface of "mirror" of a drum has to have a roughness no more than 1,6 microns.
14. Before installation of the brake drum its privalochny surfaces, basic openings and privalochny surfaces of a flange of a nave of a wheel should be cleared carefully of dirt, corrosion or забоин, and also to grease slightly with refractory and moisture resistant lubricant.
15. The brake drum has to be put on densely against the stop a nave flange only by effort of hands. Thus after installation the drum should not have free movement on a nave.
