7.7. Balancing of wheels

At manufacturer collected wheels subject to dynamic balancing. Increase in an imbalance of wheels can cause wagging of forward wheels (the phenomenon of "shimma"), reduction of stability of the car, increase in vibration, noise and wear of tires at the movement much. The unbalance causing wagging of forward wheels, notable as fluctuations (pushes) of a steering wheel is especially essential.

These fluctuations are shown not at any speed, and in the certain high-speed range (various for different cars). It is impossible to operate the car at speeds at which fluctuation of a steering wheel is felt, it is necessary to remove its cause.

It should be noted that unbalance is not the only reason of the phenomena considered above, other possible reasons and ways of their elimination are considered in subsection 6.1.10 and subsection 8.8.

The reasons of emergence of unbalance of the wheel with the tire assembled which underwent balancing after assembly at manufacturer are: wear of tires, loss of small weights (the correcting weight); deformation of a wheel; considerable pollution of a wheel; change of position of the tire on a rim after rewiring.

Thus, unbalance can arise even at normal operation of the car therefore the preventive balancing of wheels, for example, combined with their shift is expedient. Before balancing of wheels it is necessary to clear carefully them of dirt and to be convinced that the beating of a rim of a wheel and the tire meets standard.

It should be noted that at use of low-profile tires and wide ободьев statistical balancing of wheels with tires directly on the car without the special equipment is inefficient. Negative consequences of considerable unbalance (for example, at the tires which underwent repair by a protector navarka) cannot be eliminated with balancing, both static, and dynamic. Such change in the tire as, for example, local wear at emergency braking by a skid, it is also impossible to exclude balancing.

Check and elimination of dynamic unbalance is carried out only at the special stands for dynamic balancing which are available at service stations.
