The drive of a forward wheel consists of two hinges of the equal angular speeds closed by covers and connected by shaft.

The right and left drives are interchanged. The external hinge compensates angular movements, and internal – angular and axial movements (not less than 26 mm) of driving wheels.

Since June, 1997 the drives of production of GKN (Germany) having the design and the adjusting sizes similar domestic, but other sizes of the entering details are installed. Because GKN recommends only replacement of knot assembled, the design and ways of repair are considered on the example of the domestic drive.

The external hinge 1 (see rice. The drive of a forward wheel) includes the case 1 (see rice. Details of the external hinge), a separator 2, an internal holder 3, six balls 4 and a locking ring 3 (see rice. Drive of a forward wheel).

In the case of the hinge six flutes for placement of balls are executed. The tip of the case is established by Shlitseva in a nave of a wheel and fastens to it самоконтрящейся a nut.

The holder with six flutes under balls is established on vents of a shaft and is fixed by the locking ring 3 enclosed in a holder pro-point.

Care of the drive consists in regular check of an inhaling of screws of fastening of internal hinges to flanges of output shaft of differential [the moment of an inhaling of screws of 30 - 40 N · m (3–4 kgfs · l)], check of integrity of protective covers of hinges and reliability of their fastening by collars, and check of an inhaling of a nut of fastening of the external hinge of the drive to a nave of a forward wheel [the moment of an inhaling of a nut of 180-200 N · m (18–20 kgfs · l)].

The internal hinge, (see rice. Details of the internal hinge), consists of details similar to the external hinge, but at the case and a holder an arrangement of flutes under balls are executed as the crossed direct trenches. Such design allows details to have relative axial movement. The holder is established on vents of a shaft and is fixed by two rings 10 (see rice. Drive of a forward wheel) and 14. Hinges work in special SHRUS-4 lubricant and are pressurized by rubber covers.

Working capacity and durability of hinges to a large extent depends on integrity of covers and reliable sealing of hinges and is determined by existence of side plays in the radial and axial directions:

  – the radial side play in hinges is not allowed;
  – for the external hinge the axial side play is allowed within 0,3 mm.

At assembly of the internal hinge selection of the case and a holder of one sorting group is made. Therefore replacement of the hinge needs to be made only assembled.
