8.3. Steering adjustment

The condition of steering is determined by the size of a free wheeling of the steering wheel which is not leading to turn of the forward operated wheels.

The steering gear wheel lath mechanism is supplied with the samopodzhimny device for compensation of a gap in gearing of working couple and has bezzazorny gearing in all working range of the course of a lath. A free wheeling of a steering wheel 28 (see rice. Steering) taking into account gaps in hinges of steering drafts, and in bearings of wheels should not exceed suspension brackets 10 ° (about 33 mm at measurement on a rim of a steering wheel). The free wheeling is measured at the annex to a rim of effort of 7,5 N (0,75 kgfs) in both directions of rotation of a steering wheel.

If the free wheeling exceeds admissible size, it is necessary to execute the following.
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To check and tighten fastenings of a steering wheel 28, an arm of a steering column 23, klemmovy connections of the driveshaft 19, the steering mechanism on a body, thirsts for a lath and rotary levers, and also levers to suspension bracket racks.
2. To be convinced of lack of knocks and gaps in cardan hinges of a steering shaft, hinges of steering drafts and suspension brackets, and also bearings of wheels.
3. To repair worn-out knots a partition and installation of new details or to replace them entirely.
4. To be convinced of correctness of adjustment of the steering mechanism. At sharp turn of a steering wheel in both parties there should not be a knock in a zone of a gear wheel of the steering mechanism.
5. In the presence of knock in the mechanism and notable movement of a bracket of the 9th fastening of drafts at vigorous rocking in the vertical direction of an internal tip 7 it is necessary to adjust a gap in working couple.
6. For this purpose it is necessary to weaken an inhaling of a lock-nut 75 and to eliminate with rotation of the adjusting screw 76 a gap. The excessive inhaling of the screw 76 as it will result in the increased wear of the mechanism and deterioration in controllability of the car is not allowed. The moment of a pro-collar of a gear wheel 64 in correctly adjusted mechanism (at the disconnected drafts) should not exceed 3 N · m (0,3 kgfs · м).
7. Special attention should be paid to a condition of antisplash covers 10 and 82 helmsmen of the mechanism as at their damage operability of the mechanism sharply decreases.
