4.7. Possible malfunctions of engines, their reasons and methods of elimination

REASON
ELIMINATION METHOD
The engine is not launched
There is no fuel in the carburetor:
 – fuel-supply lines, filters of the fuel tank, the fuel pump, the carburetor or the filter of thin purification of fuel are littered
  – to blow fuel-supply lines, to wash out filters and the fuel tank, to replace the filter of thin purification of fuel
  – the fuel pump is faulty 
  – to check operation of the pump and to replace the damaged details
The air gate of the carburetor at the first flashes in cylinders does not open.
To eliminate leakage of the starting arrangement, to replace the damaged diaphragm of the starting arrangement.
The pneumatic valve of the economizer of compulsory idling (ECI) of the carburetor does not open:
  – pneumohighways are untight
  – to eliminate leakage
  – break in the wires going to the control unit and the electromagnetic valve
 – to check wires and their connections, to eliminate damages
 – the EPHH electromagnetic valve is faulty
 – to replace the valve
 – the carburetor EPHH pneumatic valve is faulty

 – position of the microswitch (the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve) of the carburetor is not adjusted  – to adjust position of the microswitch
The reenriched mix owing to long rotation of a shaft of the engine with completely closed air gate comes to the engine. To check operation of the starting arrangement, if necessary to adjust it, to blow the engine, letting by full pressing a pedal of management of butterfly valves and completely open air gate.
The grown poor mix owing to an air suction comes to the engine. To find the place of a suction of air and to eliminate it.
Gasoline effluence from the fuel pump and the toplivopodvodyashchy highway in a tank after the long parking of the car and evaporation of fuel in the float-operated camera of the carburetor (engines of fashion. 331, 3317 and 3313). The ignition switch is faulty:
 – contacts "15/1" and "30/1" do not become isolated  – to check and if necessary to replace the switch or its contact part
The condenser of the distributor of ignition (short circuit) is punched. To replace the condenser.
Break in primary winding of the coil of ignition. To replace the ignition coil.
Contacts of the breaker are not disconnected:

The order of accession of wires of high voltage to contacts of a cover of the distributor of ignition is broken. To check, attach wires in an operating procedure of cylinders 1-3-4-2.
Gap between electrodes of candles do not meet standard or spark plugs were made oily. To clear candles and to adjust a gap between their electrodes.
Spark plugs are damaged (cracks on the insulator). To replace candles new.

The increased gap between persistent half rings and a bent shaft. To replace persistent half rings new with the increased thickness.
Work on oil of inappropriate brand. To replace oil on recommended in the operation manual.
Knock of conrod bearings
Usually the knock of conrod bearings is sharper than knock of radical. It is listened idling the engine at sharp opening of a butterfly valve. It is easy to define the place of knock, disconnecting in turn spark plugs.
Insufficient pressure of oil. See malfunction "The insufficient pressure of oil on the heated-up engine".
Excessive gap between conrod necks of a bent shaft and inserts. To Proshlifovat necks to the repair size and to replace inserts.
Not parallelism of axes of the top and lower heads of a rod. To sort conrod and piston group and to restore parallelism.
Work on oil of inappropriate brand. To replace oil on recommended in the operation manual.
Knock of pistons
This knock usually not ringing, muffled, is caused by a piston beating in the cylinder. Best of all it is listened with a small frequency of rotation of a bent shaft and under loading.
The increased gap between pistons and cylinders. To replace pistons, to chisel and otkhoningovat cylinders (the engine of fashion. 2106), to replace sleeves of cylinders (engines of fashion. 331, 3317 and 3313).
Excessive gap between piston rings and flutes in the piston. To replace rings or pistons with rings.
Knock of piston fingers
In view of design features on engines of fashion. 331, 3317 and 3313 there can be a knock of piston fingers. This knock is characterized by a double metal sharp sound which is well heard during the operation of the engine idling.
Excessive gap between a finger and an opening in piston lugs. To put piston fingers of the increased diameter, having chiseled respectively the plug, the top head of a rod.
Excessive gap between a finger and the plug of the top head of a rod. To press the new plug in the top head of a rod and to chisel to the necessary diameter.
The increased gap in the valvate mechanism. To adjust gaps.
Breakage of a valvate spring. To replace a spring.
Knock of inlet and final valves
The increased gaps in the valvate mechanism cause characteristic knock, usually with uniform intervals. Frequency of its less than the frequency of any other knock in the engine as valves are put in action from the camshaft which frequency of rotation is twice less than the frequency of rotation of a bent shaft.
Excessive gap between a core and the directing valve plug. To replace worn-out details.
Wear of cams of the camshaft. To replace the camshaft.

* Has to be:

– not less than 0,5 кгс.м at 850–900 rpm of knees. shaft (idling);
– not less than 2 кгс.м at 1400 rpm of knees of a shaft;
– 3,4–4,5 кгс.м at 5600 rpm of knees of a shaft.
